Hotels

  • The DeBruce is perfect for a long weekend. Simple lodgings surrounded by magical Catskills woods. The 9-course locally sourced and foraged meal is a must-try.

  • Juno Hotel is the best hotel we’ve stayed at in Bulgaria. The interior design is inspired by the Japanese aesthetic and includes nice touches like a heated floor and music in the bathrooms. The food is modern Bulgarian - simple and innovative. Located in the heart of old Sofia, it offers easy access to all the main spots.

  • This was one of our most pampering hotel stays. Suites with fireplaces, balconies overlooking the mountains and ski lifts, insane breakfast buffet, and sleek indoor / outdoor spa amenities were our highlights.

Airbnbs

  • Cozy A-frame cabin minutes from Lake Tahoe and from the nearby Homewood ski resort. We loved spending time in the spacious main room, gathering by the wood stove, and ending the day in the hot tub.

  • We stayed at this gorgeous cabin twice: at the end of the summer and during the ski season. In addition to the nice interior design, fireplace and hot tub, it’s a perfect base for enjoying Vermont’s ski slopes, breweries, and mountain bike trails.

  • This cozy cottage has everything you may want for a winter getaway: hot tub, sauna, fireplace, and a lovely wooden interior. It’s a great spot to get together with friends for Thanksgiving.

  • We stayed at this sweet retreat for a July 4th weekend with a bunch of friends. Elegant interior design, plus stunning nature surrounding the property. We loved walking down to the nearby river for a quick swim and a hangout on the rocks. It looks like the property now has a swimming pool - perfect summer getaway!

  • Ani stayed here during a work trip in London. This spacious warehouse provided the perfect backdrop for a “cool, swanky, independent girl in London whirlwind month.”

Experiences

  • Blue Lagoon is a giant hot spring where you can spend a few hours (to a day) floating in mineral-rich hot water while treating your face to a clay mask. It really doesn’t get better than this.

  • People flock to Lake Powell to explore Antelope Canyon by foot, but an equally cool, and much less crowded, experience is seeing the various canyons by water. Rent a boat and dip into the awe-inspiring lake that’s basically a huge canyon (a la Grand Canyon) filled with water from the Colorado River.

  • Highly recommend this long-standing Finnish tradition: several rounds of super hot sauna enhanced by whisk beating, followed by a jump into the cold Baltic Sea.

Wish lists

Our wish lists include some gorgeous hotels we’ve come across, but not visited yet, in addition to places that appeal to our current state of mind: wild nature, lots of greenery, cozy interiors, and tasteful design.

Hotels

  • More and more tasteful hotels are cropping up across Bulgaria. Gela Hotel is a cozy family hotel in the most beautiful Bulgarian mountains (Rhodope). We love the Bulgarian countryside where we spent our summers growing up, and we’re curious to check out the activities the hotel organizes.

  • Warm clay, Mediterranean nature, soft light. Sonblanc Farmhouse is hospitality perfection in our book.

  • We’ve been itching to experience the beautiful English countryside during the summer. The Soho Farmhouse seems to offer just the cottage core environment we’ve been dreaming of.

  • A little bit of research suggests that The Ranch at Rock Creek may offer just the type of Montana experience we’ve been envisioning since watching Yellowstone: wilderness, horses, rivers, crisp mountain air, and lots of outdoorsy activities to savor it all.

Places

  • Wide-open fields, horse ranches, wild west vibes. We can’t stop thinking about this magical place since watching Yellowstone!

  • We’ve checked out Telluride for skiing, and we fell in love with this cozy former mining town. Something tells us we’ll love Colorado’s nature even more in the summertime.

  • We’re picturing stately castles, warm cocktails sipped in front of a fireplace, and windswept walks among herds of sheep.
